Unless the vehicle is tuned for the CAI - there will be virtually no gains. The tune isn't required, but if you wanted to really harness what little gains a CAI provides a tune would be wise. The tuner would probably adjust the MAF table and fuel trims to take advantage of the extra airflow.

I guess that logic makes me a liar. After putting a volant intake on my 02 4.6 I gained MPG, better throttle response and the engine roars now compared to stock. Just my experience with an aftermarket intake
