Default Cold Air intake

Hey does anyone know whether a cold air intake system would provide any noticeable changes in the power of my 02 4.6 liter f150? If they arent a waste of time, whats a good brand to choose from?

No noticeable gains to be made, if someone says they can feel it call them a liar.
Aftermarket ones are a waste of money.

Google "gotts mod" for his air intake mod. That will give you the same 5-10hp that a CAI will give you for a 10x+ less money.

Not by itself. You need to tell the computer to expect more air, otherwise its doesn't command the air:fuel ratio properly. To do that, you need to buy a handheld tuner that plugs into the OBDII port, and load a canned or custom tune into your vehicle.

bigray's comment would be applied to 04+ models. Ours doesn't make a difference and there is no need for a special tune to get the minor benefits.

Why do you think that? What's the difference with 04+ models?

They have an electronic controlled throttle and may cause the truck to run lean. Now, a tune on either style truck is not absolutely necessary but only tunes for the 04+ have any changes which adjust for CAI.

There is plenty on Google if you want to learn more.

Fyi - I'm not saying not to do it and that it's a waste. You can if you want. I have done the gotts mod to my own truck.

Bigray is correct too...

Unless the vehicle is tuned for the CAI - there will be virtually no gains. The tune isn't required, but if you wanted to really harness what little gains a CAI provides a tune would be wise. The tuner would probably adjust the MAF table and fuel trims to take advantage of the extra airflow.

I agree with 4x4dave. When I got my custom tune they asked about a CAI and I put no because I have gotts mod and k&n drop in. Now if there's actually a difference I don't really know, spend the money and find out for yourself instead of getting mixed reviews.

X2 on the gotts did it to my truck and an amsoil ea filter a it better than a CIA IMO because it pulls in air from the fender instead of the engine bay. An if you do ever get a custome tune tell them yeah you have a CIA cause that's basically what it is.
