Unhappy CB/HAM radio outputs more volts?

I have a 1999 XLT that I mounted a CB/HAM radio in. I connected the wire straight to the battery terminal, and the first start-up was extremely sloppy, and volts seemed to be running a tad higher. should I mount it differently? or just rip it out altogether. I took the fuse out of the radio, so it should not be receiving any power from the battery, draining it.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Battery is 7/22

Battery should never operate more than a 1/2 TAD high, One full TAD his is too much.

For reference, a tad is half of a skosh.

sloppy startups were probably because of doors left open for like the hour i installed it. every start now is strong. was probably nervous because of possible **** poor quality wiring i had done.
