Has your truck thrown any engine codes? Has it lost power? Does the exhaust stink? Bad cats can cause the check engine light to come one. Sometimes, if they get plugged, you slowly lose power over time. Sometimes the exhaust can smell like rotten eggs, but smelling like rotten eggs can be bad gas too. An exhaust shop can test them, but I don't know how much they'd charge. I got quoted $100 by a local Midas to test mine.

Ratting of the cat, glowing cats, failed pressure tests, bogging down, cataylist inefficiency codes are all signs. If you're unsure, get a pressure test to see if they are flowing properly.
