Smile Canbus or non-canbus

I'm thinking about placing some LEDS in the place of the of the factory bulbs, starting with interior ones first. So how can I tell whether my truck has the canbus system or non-canbus system in it? what year did this system come into play on the f150?
thanks,
CC

Pretty sure Gen 11's (most 04 and all 05 and up) are CanBUS and Gen 10's are not....if I remember right.

thanks for the info., i'm thinking about just using the equality of the 9007, 3157, and 3156...etc...but there is so many to pick from, not sure which ones of the LEDS are of good quality.

Brew is correct. No CAN bus for us.

Sylvania Zevo's are some of the best, and what I chose to put in the taillights of my "03. You may already know this, but make sure you put a red LED behind a red lens, or it will look washed out and dimmer. You will also need to change your flasher to an EP27 to avoid hyperflash.

..

but make sure you put a red LED behind a red lens

it looks like if you placed a red bulb behind a red lens it would be darker than placing a white bulb behind a red lens, or is my brain working backards...lol

It does seem counterintuitive, but take a look at THIS. Pay particular attention to the hue and the amount of spill from the tail light with each bulb type.

man aint that something that was cool, so on the tail lights I'll need 2 white leds and 2 red leds. and then on the front, I'll need 2 amber leds for the markers (turn signal). does that sound right, of course, I'll place the 9007's for the headlights. does all this sound right yall or am I missing anything other than the flasher upgrade?

thanks, guys!!

That's correct (unless you have a flareside with the reverse light in the middle, in which case you'll need two red bulbs per side), except PLEASE don't replace your headlight bulbs with LED's. Reflector housings are precisely shaped and focused for the filament position of a halogen bulb. HID and LED "upgrades" defocus the light, causing spill, scatter, and actually *decrease* overall performance. If you want to learn (a lot) about why you should not do it, check out THIS page on Daniel Stern Lighting's site.

In my opinion, some of the best halogen bulbs are thePhillips X-treme series (Amazon link below). I don't know that I believe the "100% more vision" claim, but they do work very well in my Lightning-style housings, and better than the bulbs that came with them.

i do have the flareside, but the taillights are the small wide ones the styleside has the long tail lights. so dont mine have 2 bulbs per side? now it does have the 3rd brake light/cargo light that has to white bulbs and one red one in the middle of it, but that would take a different size led, right?..i think a 578 or something like that....correct me if i'm wrong friend.
