Without AC you don't have any decent means to dehumidified and defog your windshield . AC compressor usually won't kick on below 35 or something like that but above that it's mighty handy for getting that condensation off your windshield on a rainy day. You can wipe it and it just comes back. especially if the windshield is cold and you get inside and start breathing instant fog on the windows.

Interesting. I've never once had that issue of condensation on my windows in a Ford. My Toyota does it.... but never had my Fords do it.

I would have to agree with your AC compressor working in the winter. Especially in the North East part of the country, lots of humidity. Just drinking a cup of coffee while driving in the winter will cause the windows to fog up.
Blowing hot air is not enough.

may depend on humidity.
When i get in on cold morning, windshield is fogging from breath by time i start truck .
If warm enough for ac to kick on, gone instantly.
If not, gonna be a couple miles till engine warms, wipe with napkin, but comes back
On a rainy day, same thing. Which is about half the time it seems where i am.

I am going to drop off truck this week to have vacuum and refrigerant recharged. I did not blow out and flush the lines as the orfice tube was clean except for two small slivers of metal. I've already changed the dryer so guess too late to do flush now. I may regret that decision later.

Now an XLT in Colorado
I've never had to flush an A/C system, so I'm not sure what all is involved (meaning I don't know how a new drier might play into the mix), but without a full system flush there could be other bits an pieces lingering in the system, in which case you may be replacing that new compresor sooner rather than later. Then again, you might get lucky(?).
