Hey guy, I can get a 5.4L engine to put in place of my 97 F150 XLT 4.6L. I'm getting the engine for $800, do you think it would be worth it to make the swap?

if what you do necessitates the increase in torque, then go ahead.

how much work do you think it will require, and what do you think I will need to change? I'm trying to have a estimation of what my mechanic will have to do and home much he would charge me.

Sell it and buy a truck that came from the factory with the 5.4 and save yourself some time, frustration, and money.

Build a stronger 4.6 while driving yours, then its a direct drop in. I called and got the price of a 4.6 from a salvage yard and it was only 600.00 with 30k on it.

That's a great idea NGM, that's definitively something to think about.

HI NGM, You look like a good resource....I own a 98 2wd f150 with 220000 miles and need to rebuild the engine. This thing looks like a pain! Unlike the days when I used to put an engine on a stand and rebuild it in 2 days. I would like to come oout of this with about 500 hp. Would you say it's best to rebuild at closest to OEM specs and concentrate on nitrous, chipsets or attempt to start and the beginning and build a monster? Can you even do much with this block/head configuration?
