Can I put my Limited slip from the rear, up front?
I'm thinking about regearing my truck and putting a locker in the rear.... can I use the limited slip I have now in the rear and move it to the front? btw its a 97 f150 4.6

I pretty sure you wont be able to. Check and see what size the rear end is, if it has 12 bolts on the diff cover then its a 9.75 rear end and it will not fit. And i think that most V8s came with the 9.75. But, if it is 8.8 which i think has 10 bolts (maybe) then it may fit because the front is a 8.8 but I am unsure if that means it will fit. I know the front gears are reversed but I dont know if that means the differental does too. Hope this helps you out a little.

Why would I get less MPG? and I go to a college that gets loads of snow and I also wheel on the weekend so I was thinking that would help my truck out in the snow

So do you plan on putting a limited slip in the front? If so i misunderstood you. Well I guess the mpg depends on how you drive. And yes, a limited slip would really help you truck get traction in snow. It would be hard to get it stuck unless you went in some really deep snow.

Yeah, Only if they can swap it from the back to the front...... but why would a limited slip up front cause less mpg?

You will have 3 wheels pulling with a limited slip rear differential, so why so intent on having all 4 turning. I can't give you a name of anyone I know that has a front locker, except a monster truck that runs up here. Otherwise, it's not a very big option in snow country. The F150 with traction lock is more than sufficient.

Forgot. Front and rear diff's on F150's are reversed, so you can not use the locker from the rear in the front. The ring and pinions can not be used front to rear either. Hope that helps
