Camshafts in 5.4l v8
In the 2001 f150 5.4L v8 tritons are they dual overhead camshafts? Or what camshaft design do they have? And where are they located. Thanks In advance

The cams are in the heads. Viewed from the front, they're behind the two big gears seen here.

The camshaft opens the valves for the cylinder either letting air in, or exhaust gas out. It does this with each lobe pushing against the rod on the valve which is connected to a spring. The camshaft is driven by the timing chains, which are driven by the crankshaft. The crankshaft is connected to the connecting rods, which are connected to the pistons. There is a bank of valves on each side of the motor as the cylinders for a V, which is why it's called a V-8. There are 4 cylinders per side, each with 2 valves on the 5.4 of this year. In short, there is one camshaft per side for this year of engine.

Here's a pretty good explanation of SOHC, DOHC and standard pushrod valve trains.
