just got off the phone with comp cams
they were pretty helpful - he said if I was looking to take advantage of the cams (it moves the power curve up on the rpm range) he recommended first:
-with 30" tires/3.73's - first re-gear the truck to 4.10's and get a high stall torque converter ($850+ shipping from precision industries)
-basic bolt ons - exhaust, intake
-then replace the cam ($650 + install)
with 177k miles the modular head shop recommended a cylinder hone + re-ring first...then install the cam and upgrade the head from 3-thread to 8 thread spark plug mounts
all of those components are a full system and they should be replaced together for maximum gains
going to have a shop look at the truck next week...definitely been wanting to re-gear the truck for a little more oomph off the line and service all the regular stuff up to speed.
