Default A/C compressor wont engauge on its own

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone had the same problem im having with my a/c compressor and knew of a quick fix for it... The a/c was blowing warm air, so i go to charge it and figure out the compressor wasnt kicking on. So i take a stick and try to jump start it, and it kicked over and engauged. So then i charge the system and i shut off the truck, and restart it and the compressor was stuck again... Anyone have any ideas?

Nope, no noises. actually its been starting to engauge by itself after letting it run for about a minute. im thinking maybe the clutch was just stuck from not being used over winter...

Liking the stuck clutch theory. Just commented (another thread) about me leaving mine run all year long and adjusting the temp dial. It will not do any harm if you let it do its thing all year long. I'm at 185K on an 02.

Do you have a professional refrigerant system or are you adding by can? AC systems require a specific amount of refrigerant to operate properly. You should first determine why you have no coolant (bad O-ring, bad schrader valve, etc). If there is not enough pressure sensed, the compressor will not kick in. Also, if you jam to much in, you will lock up the compressor for good. Its best to pull a vacuum, then add the proper amount.

Gentleman, coolant is what goes in radiators, it for the engine cooling system. Freon or refrigerant is what goes in the air conditioning system. Lets all get on the same page.

Freon functions as both a heating element and a heat dissipator..when something eliminates heat, it is a coolant. Engine/transmssion/power steering oil, amongst their other functions, also serve as a coolant.
