A/C Blows the fuse
All,
I have a 2001 F150 extended cab with the 4.6L, about a year ago my A/C compressor locked up. I unhooked the wire connector and just drove without A/C, so now I finally changed out the compressor. Full system purge, vacuum'd out all air and recharged, charge is good. I can put in a new fuse and the the a/c is perfect, cold as the north pole however randomly it will blow the fuse. I've back tracked everything and all looks good - any ideas? Should I change out the low and high side pressure switches? Can the blend door actuator cause the fuse to blow if bad? Just hoping I can figure this out without taking it to the shop and spending money I don't have. It's fuse #5 in the passenger compartment. All other fuses in the circuit appear to be good (under the hood).
Thanks,
Steve

So I traced one of the wire harness' back behind the motor and in front of the firewall. Sure enough there was a small spot where it had been laying on the backside of the block or upper tranny housing, really not sure as i had to lay on the engine to run my arm behind there and trace the harness with my fingers to find the spot. Casing was brittle and I immediately knew I found it. It appears that one of the harness holders (christmas trees) that hold the harness up off the metal was missing, my guess is that it was never there. I've got a 'patch' on it for now but plan to redo it all the right way this weekend. I can only imagine the labor a shop would have charged me to trace this down - kd4gij - thank you brother your help was priceless and now I have cold a/c that will freeze you out! I'll post pics when I do the permanent fix, Thanks Again!!
