Thanks for all of the help and responses guys. I'll definitely be checking things a little more. Lowell as I do the oil change again to make sure I'm not missing a small leak somewhere.

I have seen them leak out of the front crank seal and run down the pan an get on the exhaust. I run Royal Purple in mine, but will be switching back to Motorcraft because of the price of fuel is killing me . $120 oil changes are killing me.

Uhhh, that's bad right? I wouldn't think it's a leak like that though, I never had the issue before changing the oil, maybe it was a freak incident where a seal went out at the same time I changed the oil. I'm gonna switch conventional oil and see what happens. If the smell continues I'll dig a little deeper.

Synthetic oils are thinner even at the same viscosity as conventional oils. So a good seal may start to leak after switching to synthetic.

You can flip flop back and fourth between oils. That has nothing to do with it. It has to usualyy with the brand you use. For instance. Valvoline High Mileage uses additives that fatten the rubber componets around the motor. Quality oil is everything, everyone also forgets OIL FILTER OIL FILTER OIL FILTER. Use a quality oil filter. Pretty much everything but Fram lol. Motorcraft Filters are excellent, as well as mopar. Mopar filters will also fit on our trucks. I like Amsoil personally. I change my oil once a year on multiple vehicles, and I still get 300,000 miles out of them.

I used Motorcraft, that's all I use on my truck, oil included. The reason I think it's the oil is because it didn't happen until I changed the oil this time and I've had several mechanics, which don't stand to make a dime off of me, tell me that's probably the issue. Like I said before, I'm going to change the oil again, because it wont hurt anything and it's the cheapest route to start with, if that's not the issue I'll dig deeper. Just seems weird to me that I might lose 1 quart of oil over a 3,000 mile period before and then change the oil and bam, lose 2 quarts of oil over three weeks and smell a scent like burning motor oil. I might try that Valvoline High Mileage stuff though, thanks for the tip.

Motorcraft is a great oil. I worked for Ford for a long time. When it comes to the oil and filters Motorcraft has extremley strict standards. I would change the oil and monitor it. From what I'm reading it doesn't add up for me. Have you change the fuel filter recently?

Nope, according to the car lot I bought it from all of that was done. I may change it anyway when I do the Trooper. What would the fuel filter be causing out of curiosity? I'm thinking of doing a good servicing on it, plugs, coils, etc.

It could also be a bad pcv valve. If i recall your truck uses a heated pcv valve. I have sern the element plug up with debri. I would change the oil and pcv valve before anything else.

How difficult is the PCV valve to get to and change?
