Default engine rebuild (crankshaft tool)

I had my second sparkplug blow out, and this time there's no fixing it. I've decided to rebuild my 5.4. It has 200015 miles and I fill its time, besides I've always wanted to rebuild an engine. I'm to the point of pulling my timing chains and the book tells me to use a cam or crankshaft tool. My question is, if I'm going to pull it all a part do I have to use the tool or can I just keep going. Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks all.

I am guess they are talking about the timing tool? Ford sells one but I found one on amazon.

. Maybe it is just talking about keeping the timing set for the cams?

Im assuming if youre at the timing chains then they mean a camshaft lock so you dont get the timing messed up.
