True, however the difference between kenwoods amps/ subs and their headunits are remarkable. The majority of headunits have the same features, they don't need to be true rated power unless you don't have a separate amp for your speakers. Sony and Kenwood both have very good lines of headunits, however their subs and amps simply do not put out the power they are rated at.

As for the main purpose of this thread, Alpine is a very good brand to start with. Go with the type r or type e series subs and an amp that suits your budget. Most mainstream brands catch people's attention just because of the name, but the majority of times their subs and amps aren't worth a penny.

If you're looking for more SPL (Speaker Pressure Level) go to Steave Meade's forum and there's a lot more you can read there. I've been in the audio game for about 5 years and have learned a lot since I first started. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I can point you in the right direction or tell you if your ideas are good.

Ive got a full Rockford Fosgate setup and absolutely love it. 2 Prime series 10" 150w subs with a 300w Punch series amp, 6x8 Punch series speakers and Kenwood headunit. When you throw in the box from SuperCrew Sound and wiring, it came in at just under $1000 and was well worth it.

At the moment I have a Aenwood head unit. 2 kicker speakers and 2 kenwood speakers in the back. And 2 10" Kenwood subwoofers power with a 600W kenwood amp. It a great set up. It doesn't hit to hard but sounds really good but also doesn't hit the low bass notes the very best. I am upgrading to 1 12" Rockford Fosgate P2D4-12 sub when I can get a freaking job but other wise I like this set up a lot. Probably about a $500 system in all.
