Default Back-up cam install and DDIN

Hey fellars - next project is going to be a double din install and backup cam. I have seen a multitude of ways guys have done this - two questions:
1. Outside of the license plate mounts what are your favorites? Keep in my I drive a Screw so I can't swap tailgates for the Superduty with the emblem cam.
2. Double DIN recommendations? Looking to keep it under $400 for the head unit, figure I can get pretty good quality product in that price range. Any input is welcome.

Much appreciated

IMO i always look on amazon.com for the best of "last years models" you'll know if they are any good based on the reviews and you can save some $$ by not purchasing the newest of new. Good luck. For what it's worth im very pleased with my older pioneer. They make a solid product line.

Look at the Jensen VX7020 or their newer model the Jensen VX7022

I personally had the 7020 and loved it. I was on a budget and for under $300 you won't find another one with the features it has.

The only thing the 22 has over the 20 is screen mirror. Plug up your phone and whater is on your phone will be displayed on the screen. Maybe handy for certain apps.

But, 6.2" touch screen with **** (I had to have one) IgoPrimo Navigation, Bluetooth,
Aux, All the hook ups you could want. USB, Micro SD, blah blah blah.

Seriously check it out

Amazon.com : Jensen VX7022 2 DIN Multimedia Receiver, 6.2-Inch Touch Screen with Bluetooth, SiriusXM, HDMI/MHL and Built-in Navigation, iGo Primo (Black) : Car Electronics Amazon.com : Jensen VX7022 2 DIN Multimedia Receiver, 6.2-Inch Touch Screen with Bluetooth, SiriusXM, HDMI/MHL and Built-in Navigation, iGo Primo (Black) : Car Electronics

I will be buying it again soon for the f150

you wont get a mfg warranty for pioneer or kenwood from amazon or ebay.
These units have a high problem rate, just read reviews on amazon. They are all made in china, and there isnt a big car stereo after market anymore because mfg have integrated all kinds of car features like climate controls, seat controls, etc into new vehicles head units and they cant be replaced.

The software availabe from car mfgs today will read texts out to you, let you respond, etc and is superior to what the aftermarket stereos provide. the market is older cars mainly so car stereo mfgs put little into it. Bluetoorh has supported Message Access Profile (MAP) for years, but aftermarket stereos ignore it. New cars often have it, will read out incoming messages, let you respond, etc. In short....basically all aftermarket today are just the cheapest possible chinese crap and are usually riddled with issues.

The extra $100 you pay for an authorized dealer, AND pay with Visa and get 1yr after mfg expires, gets you a 2 yr warranty on the item. Well worth it with the high problem rate.

Last yrs and previous kenwood DDX units reputedly had horrible phone sound with old Hands free profile 1.5. Kenwood finallyupgraded to 1.6 this yr, and bluetooth 3.0 with the ddx273 and ddx373. Hopefully their phone sound improved. but theyve only been availabel for a week at crutchfield now..

Pioneer has always had the best phone sound and previous yrs had bluetooh 3.o and HFP 1.6. . This yr 2016 the screens are better with a few other improvements. They just became available too.

Crutchfield also gives you $30 free installation kit stuff, so the price diff isnt as much as you might think compared to amazon or ebay, and you have warranty. Maybe $70 more. Plus 60 day returns.

In short, Id buy a current yr unit from Crutchfield. The pioneer AVHX3800BHS is $380 and the AVH2800BHS is $330. The difference with the 3800 is RDS and HD radio. The kenwood ddx373 or ddx273 are kenwood equivalents. They are cheaper, but screen isnt quite as good as the pioneer, cruder resistive screen with a lot of glare, poorer layout , the little **** is ridiculously slick and hard to grip to turn. Dont be misled by kenwood 22 watt rms, its not a CEA rating like Pioneers 14 watts rms is. They are actually about equal. If you go with last yrs models, Id avoid kenwood due to phone sound being poor, and stick with pioneer. Id still buy it from crutchfield. Last yrs models just got marked down when the new ones arrived at places like best buy, and you get warranty, but with tax its the same as crutchfield and you dont get the free installation kit, wiring harness, etc.

Get a Audiovox cam500 and mount it high on the tailgate under your handle. Mounted low around license plate you cant see hitch, license plate lights cause glare at night, and being inset behind bumper cuts off your field of view. Advent isnt making this model anymore, and sonicelectronix seems to be the only place that has any.

I don't recommend jensen. Anything but it. My dad has one in his mustang. COMPLETE JUNK. or it could just be a low quality model. But it is junk.

Bumping one of my old threads. What about camera options? I've got a Screw so I can't do the tailgate swap. Any good new products or am I best to get a plate frame cam?
