Anyone owning pre 2004 F150s or other Ford vehilces
Not sure if this topic has been posted about already, but my sister called me the other night as she knows I have an F150. A person she knows had their F150 burst into flames and burn down not only itself but two cars parked next to it. I looked into it and it seems like this issue has been prevalent in early 90s to 2003 model Ford Vehicles.
This seems to be pretty old news but I had never heard of it until now so I assume many of u haven't either.
Seems like its related to the type of Cruise control relay they used in some vehicles? Below are some links I found.

Yeah take it to the dealer they will do it for free it will take about 30min if I remember correctly from when I had mine done.
I would get it done as soon as possible. Call the dealer and I think you can give them your vin and they can tell you if it has been done.
My buddies dad has a 97 that caught on fire because of that so it is definitely an issue. He was able to catch it in time and save the truck and his house.

That's right. It's a 30 minute job they did on my '97. They replace a wiring harness and put a new switch in. The new wiring harness contains a fusible link to help prevent fires. The switch is a better design to prevent brake fluid from getting into the contacts.

I ignored the recall, thinking I'd take my chances. It caught fire & some passersby noticed it smoking. I got it put out. But I had to replace the master cyl & cruise control cable at my cost because I actually told the dealership I didn't have time to get in. They replaced the cruise control solenoid at their cost after I put on the MC. Luckily, I'm a pretty good mechanic.
BTW, here's another part that is likely to fail on you & Ford will deny it's defective: The tie rod ends. If you Google the issue, you'll find people all over N America have had the ball/socket to come apart at low speeds. But they have no recall on it. It failed on me leaving work. The end only cost about $18, but once again. I'm a decent mechanic, so I patched it up in the parking lot at work & limped to the shop to get an alignment. Real cost was about $80. I was lucky it happened at work.

The recall was done on my 97 F-150 before I bought it from a private owner.
I did the job on my wife's 2001 Windstar. The Windstar's use the same arrangement, but as far as I know there has been no recall on the Windstar.
My wife was getting an oil change done at a dealership (there is a dealer in Delaware that does $9.95 oil changes), and they told her the brake pressure switch was leaking. They wanted something like $150 to change it.
I got the new switch and harness kit from a local dealer for about $20, and did it my self.
It actually took longer to remove the airbox and air filter to make room to work than it took to change the switch and plug in the harness.

Good to know that this is pretty widespread knowledge. I wanted to post it just in case there were people out there that have maybe purchased used older gen Fords that have no idea about this. I think that was the case with the person my sister knows. THey bought their F150 used and had no idea about the problem and apparently it had never been taken care of and boom...up in flames. Too crazy. Just thought I would put it out there for people to find just in case
