Hello, I am new to this forum. I just got off the phone with Ford and I am curious if anyone else out there had to replace their gas tank due to the straps failing and causing the tank to drop, damaging it?

Yes my tank rusted so bad right where the strap rusted out it caused it to leak gas. I replaced the tank and straps myself a year or so ago before the recall.

Yep, my tank fell apart as they were changing the straps at the dealer. Ford bought me a new tank

If you have your receipts from the repair you can take it to your local Ford dealer and they will refund you the full amount you paid.

as far as i know all years of our generation truck, 97-03
i think they only specified the trucks that were sold in the snowy areas of the country though, as salt obviously corrodes metal.

call a local ford dealer service depot and give them your VIN number if you want to see if yours is covered, they seem to send the recall notices out in waves. there were guys getting theres many months before i got mine, and when i got mine there were still many guys who hadnt gotten one yet, but when they checked into it, their trucks were covered.

Yeah it's only in the "rust belt" We've replaced probably 3 tanks during the recall at my dealer, but we've had 20 or more come in with both straps broken and either the skid plate holding it in or ratchet strapped up. This is out of hundreds, but still.. I haven't checked mine yet, because I have the skid plate and even if they're rusted through it won't fall out haha.

I had replaced my tank due to the straps rusting (years back before the recall).

I had my 02 in for other work and they told me mine werent covered under the recal. Not sure if mine was built late for that year and 03's are not included either or what.

It's 97-04 heritage. And Kansas isn't on the "affected list" so that's probably why you don't have the recall. It's basically the northeast corner of the country that has the recall.
