Question Anyone ever remove a 15 year-old bed liner?

I'm retiring my '97 from hard labor; we're both just too old! So I want to clean her up a bit. First order of business is the bed. I want to remove the plastic liner, but I'm worried about what I might find. After 15 years is there going to be nothing but cancerous rust (I'm not worried about surface rust)? Will I be able spruce it up with just sandpaper and paint?

What did you find?

Hmmm well honestly when I took the liner out of my 2000 f150 after it was in for 8 or 9 years I was really surprised how good of shape it was in. No rust holes or cancer at all scuffed paint but good overall condition. Then there's my 08.... I took the liner out of that after the truck was a little over a year old or so and there was 5 or 6 pretty serious rust spots. I had to use a buffer wheel on a grinder to clean them up before I put the bed armor to it. Take it out and if it's rusty do the proper steps to clean it up and go over it with something to protect it. Those plastic liners are horrible for trucks and when I buy my next truck they are going to take it out at the dealer so I dont have to get rid of it once I get it home. Good luck!

Took it out of my 97 about 3 months ago. A bunch of spots where the paints gone except for the grey primer. No rust tho! Good luck!
