Lockers work great in any kind of rig if you know how to use them. On snow, bit tricky with an automatic transmission. Now if your someone who has a clutch, and know how to use it, you'll never spin on a icy start, never slide around corners, only apply what you need to keep you moving...you know, all those things you can't do with an auto. There is a reason nearly all over the highway truck drivers prefer winter rigs to have 10 speed, 15 speed, and 18 speed manuals. More precise control you just don't get with an auto (not to mention the manual weighs half what the auto does, therefore more cargo).

They all function differently and in turn will have better or worse characteristics in different conditions, no one method will reign supreme in all conditions... So saying "no worse than a limited slip" which out performs other methods traversing a slippery road at speed just doesn't make sense... It allows one axle to drag behind if friction is sufficient on that tire to keep said tire at speed with the vehicle to maintain the most traction possible and it will keep your **** end from ending up frontward... Lockers will have a hard time with this and the tires will be spinning at the same rate in snow or ice around a corner at speed, or slipping at the same rate for that matter which will cause less traction and more action... Ratcheting lockers need a lot more friction than snow to let go and ratchet and drag, pavement barely let's em create the action haha...

Tearing through mud or rippin through a trail? Yeah obviously a tough locker would be better than the LS...

A selectable locker would obviously out perform most because you have an option which is always nice, hence the more $$$$, select it when you need it up a snowy hill, turn it off when you're going down a hill around a corner in the snow... Turn it back on when you hit the trail or mud pit....

So what are you doing with your truck??

I get it just fine. My experience with the trac lok was it kicked out on just around every turn and when one tire hit ice in a straight line it would kick out if I didn't adjust. My aussie not the case.

^^ It's true, if you know how to drive it, and you can expect, acknowledge and adjust for everything the truck or terrain can throw at you then you're golden with whatever setup you're running...

But some people can, can't, think they can or don't...

So for the ones that can, great!

For the others, they should choose more wisely as to which type of equipment they will run that will HELP them traverse whatever terrain they travel most... The ones that can don't need the "help"
