I hear if you have over 100k miles to not change the fluid and filter on your transmission this true? Its a 2002 with 105500.

ive heard this to. my 2002 f150 has 184k and i really want to change it but not sure if its okay?

I bought my truck with 119k. Just changed it at 120ish and it was the first time it has been changed. I know this because I found the dip stick plug that they put in from the factory laying in trans pan. I drained the torque converter also. Trans shifts smoother now and the vibration between shifts went away. I would change it. Just make sure you use the correct type of fluid. I have a 4w70 which takes 13qts of Mercon V.

Dont flush the tranny!!!!!!!!!


Just replace whats in the pan. And do it again every 20k or so.

Heres why:

The tranny works by pushing fluid through valves and clutches and what not. If you flush it, it could knock dirt deposits loose and clog a valve or whatever. And basically require a rebuild to fix it. Just slowly ween the old fluid out.

So how do I go about doung this just drop the pan and letit drip a little?

If theres a drain plug, drain it, add new. After 2-3 changes pull the pan, replace the filter. If it doesnt have a drain plug. Pull the pan completely

If you have a plug in your pan that means you filter has never been changed. Your oil however could have as the dealers will pump it out without dropping pan. The theory against flushing when you're way past due is that the cleaning cheminals added by dealer will break loose dirt stuck in the converter, clog passages, cause tranny to overheat, which results in slipping, then failure. If your fluid has lost its pink color and or smell burnt you probably are better off dropping pan and adding a oil over time as others have stated here.

Well then I dobt need to do anything cause its nice and pinkish redish and smell fine

This is on my 04. The silver piece on the left has a pretty good amount of trans fluid leaking on to it. Can anyone help me figure out what needs to be done to fix it?
