Depending on year & engine size, you either have a Relay or a half relay.
An easy way to test your Relay is locate your AC relay, (Owners manual that came with the truck will show which is which).
Replace it with another relay from the box, start engine, turn AC on & go look look to see if AC clutch engages, if so, great, it was just the Relay.
Also on the same line as the AC clutch is the Throttle Position Sensor, so if your TPS is bad, it will stop the circut & your AC clutch will no longer work.
As when your Auto does not start, you need to check for Fuel & Spark, it simplifies locating problems.
When your auto AC fails, first check to see if you have pressure in your AC system, (this is done using a guage, preferibly guages but even one on a empty can will work). If your clutch is not engaging, you will not get accurate readings, but it will show if you have a leak or it is an electrical problem.
I am a firm believe in never just replacing parts unless I know a part is indeed needed. Any auto part can be & should be tested prior to replacement.
