ABS Electrical Control Module

I have a 2000 F150 with 215K miles on it that I would prefer to keep going for another year or two. Today it was diagnosed as needing a new ABS electrical control module at a cost of over $1100 at the local dealer. And, if that didn't completely solve the problem there is another $900+ part that may also be needed.

Any alternatives such as by-passing this module, using a refurbished part, etc.? I don't know if there is any programming necessary.

I am in Austin, TX.

Might want to check out Rockauto, ebay or your local junkyard for one. I'm sure if you shop around you can find one quite a bit cheaper.

Out of curiosity, what was the issue with it? ABS light on?

ive got the same problem. my module failed in my 02.

problem is the module i need is more expensive than the normal f150s. the module for my 7700 is close to $800 just to purchase, not sure what they would charge me to flash and install, im not too sure if flashing the module is required though.

check out ebay and local junk yard. the junk yard by me has plenty of trucks with the ABS modules still in them. one of those units will work. i dont think they need to be flashed but theres a good chance im wrong, ive been meaning to contact the local dealer to ask about that.

The module doesn't "fail" the mossfet amplifier on the silicone chip burns out and there are how-to's on how to replace it for under $10 instead of $900.

Mine has been on for a while too, by chance does anyone happen to lose brakes when they apply the pedal sometimes? I do... scares the $%@* out of me, lol.

You talking about the computer looking part of the abs, behind the passenger kick panel?

Are you sure it's the module, I have the same problem an just pulled abs fuse. But it can also happen when a wheel bearing goes bad. Pull the plug going to the wheel and if it does the same then pull the opposite and plug the other one back in if it keeps doing it then its the module.

No. I'm talking about the part of the abs that's on the brake side of the master cylinder that has a proportioning valve built into it.
