'99 Cat Delete Smog Pump Questions
I have no emission control in my state.
I want to do a cat delete and long tube headers but I've read all kinds of different opinions. I need facts, gentlemen.
This truck is a farm truck and it sees less than 5k miles a year. I'm doing a complete rebuild and I want to eliminate any unnecessary parts that could potentially fail in the future.
Any advice on that would be appreciated.

FACT: These trucks don't have a smog pump.

I'm no expert.... and I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in. But, unless you have a tuner, you're not going to be able to do delete things like EGR. I can tell you that if you just remove EGR as it sits, it will run like a dog. You can "fool" the ECU into thinking it still has cats, but AFAIK, that's about it without a tuner.

Your performance is going to suffer with an egr delete even with it adjusted in the tune. The only thing you will gain from that is a less cluttered engine bay and somewhat cleaner running engine. You can delete the cats but again there is no gain unless you are pushing big power. It also has to be adjusted for In the tune to keep it running 100%

No longer stuck in 2003
Honestly I think you are going to spend far more time trying to get the engine tuned without the CATs and EGR than it'd be worth. The biggest thing that fails that I've seen on the EGR system is the sensor and that's about 5 minutes of work and 25$ at the store.
I could be wrong but I'd leave those systems in place. Sure CATs aren't cheap but good tuners aren't cheap either and as long as you aren't misfiring your cats (assuming you get new ones) should last you far longer than you'll have the truck.
This is all my opinion, it's worth what you paid for it.
