For those of you who have done the procedure of changing your 1998 bumper to the 99 + one, what parts did you need? I heard its not direct fit, wanting more feedback.

Also wanting to change the grille, to either Lighting or Harley
I want to go from this

Search on previous threads here - a number of members have done it (I was lucky to find the exact bumper you're trying to replace, just to get the fogs!). Basically, the bolt patterns are the same, BUT, you will have to replace your header panel and grille with ones from the '99 and up version.

another question if i buy the lighting grille but without changing bumper or anything will it be direct fit?

Not so fast - carefully look at both of the pics you posted. the '99 and up has a lip on the lower portion of the grille and header panel. The '97-'98 goes straight across. I suggest hitting your local Craigslist and/or junkyard to get ALL of the required pieces (header panel/grille, bumper and valance) so you know they'll bolt up together. It took me months to find the one you have on your truck now (I got mine off an Expedition, so keep that option open, too!), so what you're looking for may be along in a few weeks time.

i noticed that too but didnt think it would rub i thought it was just gonna fill the gap that it has now. Might as well do it the right way and replace the bumper too.

I've done this swap. Your header panel is fine unless its a 7/96 production date (check door jamb). Then you will need to replace that with a newer one. You need the top bumper pad, and the push-ins to hold that to the new bumper. You may aswell order new hardware for the lower valance as well. You need the new mounting brackets for the bumper. And all you fog light mounts/hardware.
