After all the work of dropping the fuel tank and taking out the fuel pump, I would just go ahead and change the whole unit. If your fuel pump ever fails with a full tank of gas, you have to either remove the gas and put it somewhere, or drop the tank with about 150 to 200 lbs of gas in it. It doesn't cost a lot extra to go first class and change the whole unit. Just remember all the money you are saving by DIY.

The pump and screen is the whole unit for the fuel to get pumped. If the gas gauge works properly I would ONLY change the pump and strainer. If the gas gauge doesn't work and the pump is bad then I would change the fuel pump assembly. Which would be the whole unit. This is just my opinion on what I would do

thanks guys. The whole sending unit and pump is over $200 at my local auto parts store and I still have to but the strainer. The pump and strainer are only around $90. I would love to just change the whole thing but my local store wont get it for about 2-3 days where as the pump and strainer they have in stock.thanks for the input I appreciate it
