97 f150 speedometer don't work
Hi everyone. I own 97 super cab f 150 stepside , 5.4 L , automatic .Not long ago all my gauges stopped working including Speed. tacho. fuel. temp. whenever i turn key to ignition position all the lights come on normally ang go off after truck starts so i assume they work. I looked to manual and tried to find a fuse responsible for this disfunction. Well neither in manual or fuse box i didint find answer. Please if anyone have any advise please let me know. driving with out a speedometer or fuel level gauge its not fun. little too much taking chances.. Thanks.
Most of the electrical functions are ran through and controlled by the GEM or Generic Control Module. This "black box" has it fingers in things such as the power windows, gauges, lights.. It also is where the often dreaded "door gonger" is located.
To get to it, you will have to remove the lower kick panel on the drivers side, and unbolt the fuse panel. You will find it on the back of the fuse box. One sure fire way to find it is follow the door gonger. That I know of, there is no way to test the thing, and I can tell you from expierience, the cheapest way of getting out with your wallet intact is to find on with the matching part number on ebay.
