Default 97 F150 4.6 will not start

The engine will turn over but will not start. It has done this for a while but has always started after a few minutes.. The truck has not been started in 5 days. I tried to see if the plugs were firing by using a new plug and wire. plugged it on to the left and right coil packs to see if the plug would fire where you turned the engine over. Both coil packs did not fire. What tells them to turn on. Engine has 247K on it.. Or am I on the wrong path>

would that cause the spark plugs not to fire? should i be able to see the sparks If the plug is out and I turn the moter over? or does something else need to happen before it will fire?

Just to verify - were the plugs grounded when you looked?

Given the miles on the vehicle and that it has done something similar in the past, I'm wondering if the fuel system isn't draining down somehow. Mine's a little hard to start if it has set for a few days - I found that by rocking the key to 'ON' a couple of times before rolling the starter, letting the fuel pump charge the lines a little more - it starts much easier. Perhaps it's one of those superstitions, like throwing salt over your shoulder, but it seems to help.

The plug was not grounded and I'm guessing that was why i never saw a spark. I unplugged the mas air sensor, idler air control??, and the one above it, and the truck started, would not idle but it started.. started plugging the sensors back in a the truck never shut off. Now it has started everytime today. Who knows.. I will post again tomorrow and let you know if it starts... What is going on with my engine? Fuel Pump??

Have you confirmed that you have correct battery voltage?
