Haha I understand wanting to help your friends out, so don't get me wrong. It's just I wouldn't drop 400-450 on a winch just for them. I'm sure it might come in handy at some point for you though. I mean for $400 they better be buying you breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Always buy the best you can afford and if you can't afford the best then wait till you can. If you can't afford to buy something, you don't deserve it yet.

smitty built 10k. Two of my friends Dana 98 Jeep, and Wade 2012 Nissan) bought them and I followed suit. synthetic rope, fairlead, and all wireing included. I soon bought one myself from Summit, (only they will ship one to an overseas base in Japan).
I have not pulled anybody out with mine yet, but Dana used his on his jeep to pull me when I was high centered on rocks with a tree root hooked in the torsion bar spacer blocks. He pulled me off after he drugg his jeep about 10 feet on dry rock on a single line pull.
Wade used his to pull out a 60 Lancruiser that was buried to the frame (8" lift) from a mud pit. the week prior
I am using the habor freight universal winch plate bolted (sandwhiched) between the stock front tow hooks and the frame.
This fits quite well with the winch tucked up just shy of the stock transmission cooler on my SCREW. this allows about 70 degrees of pull angle 35 on either side of straightline for the screw. one thing I would advise, get the waterproof version, and then take the solenoid box, pull it apart and reseal it with permatex orange silicone sealent. (Wade, though he had the "water proof" version had problems with his solenoids after water intrusion while pulling out the landcruiser. as soon as I got mine also the waterproof version, I immediately resealed the solenoid box just incase. I went as far as to seal the wired remote into place just incase.
cheers

photos of the handmade front push bar with winch and lights
the push bar is hand made and is welded to the habour freight universal winch mount. this is all bolted to the frame by being sandwiched between the stock tow hooks as well as two bolts per side through preexisting holes in the frame. the two trhough the frame use a seperator spacer inside the box frame to keep the frame rails from collapsing.
winch is behind the license plate, which I remove prior to any offroad excursions.

in the 2nd pic, is where ima have the cable come out, the green rectange is 1.5-2" tall....in the 1st pic, the winch will sit inside the green outlines where it SHOULD fit.
