Without a tuner there will be a noticeable difference because the trans will be shifting at the wrong time.

I have the 4.6, 3.55ls rear end, 285/70/17 goodyear duratracs, and all on a 4x4 supercrew with almost 166xxx miles on it(terrible combination on paper) but in reality ive had no complaints with it all. Yeah theres a noticeable difference from the stock 30" yokohamas but im easy on the gas on the street(for the most part), take it off road as much as i can, and pulled many a friend out of mud and sand and its never felt terribly underpowered to me. As far as the trans goes it seems to always shift fine around town and on the highway. Long inclines seem to be its only weakness but thats to be expected. Ive thought about installing a trans temp gauge and some sort of auxiliary cooler for it also just to help it live a little longer. In the end if you arent towing a whole lot and dont drive like a high school kid i think youll be alright with the 285s.

I've been hunting an FX4 OEM front skid plate the one on the front crossmember. So far no luck, Its hard to tell from the diagram but is this the right skid plate from ford? It LOOKS correct but i could easily be wrong, for $63 I'm considering it..

I still have my original from the front end tear down. No room for a shield and a couple of remote oil filters.

It will effect it a little, but not to bad. I can still roast rubber when I feel like it in my 98 4.6 non pi with 3:55s. Im running 285 70 17 mt btw.

Speaking of towing, is there anything I should know about towing with these trucks? The boat has a 3k license on the trailer meaning it weighs 3k or less. Should I turn off overdrive or anything like that when I'm towing?

x2 I was wondering the same thing. I'll be getting a small 14 foot Jon boat soon probably and I don't wanna screw up my od by not turning it off
