Default Thank you for the help, one more, lower control arm replacement

I have a 2000 F150 2wd, long bed, extended cab, 4.6L. I was replacing the lower ball joint bushings on the passenger side, when the hub assembly dropped, so did the ball joint, right out of the lower control arm. The hole for the lower ball joint was tore up.

I purchased a new passenger side lower control arm, and the instructions from Autozone include a torsion adjustment tool and plates, as well as control arm bushings that need to be replaced with a press.

Does someone have a link to this procedure step by step? Images and video would be great as well.

Thanks again,
Sam

If you got a torsion bar tool you ended up with lower control arms for a 4wd. The 2wwd control arms have replacable ball joints also..

Hello Carcrazygts, thank you for the reply. The part does not have a torsion application, just the instructions to install the piece calls for such a tool. I am thankful to hear it does not need to the torsion tool!
The lower ball joint hole in the control arm is damaged, the ball joint slipped out of the control arm with no effort, that is why I am replacing the arm.

Do the bushings for the control arm need to be pressed out of the arm and the frame? If they do, how do I do that?

Thanks, Sam

Ok, so the bushings do not need to be removed or even messed with. Got it.

The lower control arm was a snap(no pun intended) The coil spring does not need to be compressed, the bolts in the frame zipped right out(thank you no salt state!) and i even put in new shocks.

Thank you for the replies,
Sam

I will be attempting to change my lower control arms this weekend on a 2001 2WD as well. I want to make sure I don't need spring compressors. From what I read from this post I can simply let the jack slowly release the tension. Right? I do have spring compressors if needed but i would be easier to do without them.
Thanks
