Default 1998 engine problems

I am going to look at a 1998 F150 today and have read about engine problems with the 1998's.I have read that engines manufactured in 98 after I think Feb were OK but before had problems. Can anyone give me more detail on this?
Where do I find the mfg date for the engine? I don't think the date on the door panel is always the same as the engine mfg date and that is the important one from what I read.
thanks

Get a newer truck. They can be had pretty cheap. I don't know what issues you are referring to, but with gas prices like they are used trucks are cheap. Even the newer ones.

Default 1998 engine problems

I need a work truck.I'm using the truck to haul seafood so I don't want to buy a new truck .The salt water is rough on the truck so I want a solid used one for reasonable price.I now own a 1994 straight 6 and it has been phenomenal.Has almost 300,000 on it and compression is still good.Tranny getting weak though.

I have a early production 98, and have no problems with it at all. (knock on wood)
