Default 5.4 heater return hose

2003 5.4

Just made 1000 mi round trip w/trailer.
Another coming up this friday.

noticed low coolant at last gas stop, but continued home, figured slow leak somewheres.

Checked in heat soak at home. Found return hose from heater leaking, even squirting small stream in heat soak.

Barely jostled hose sticking hand back there, found hose totally broken off of connector.

Check that old plastic.
And level occasionally
Ive read to only use motorcraft part?

Scary close to being stranded on interstate hundreds of mi from home in middle of night. Wife wouldnt have been amused.

I think when mine go, or whenever I have to do the core, regular hose is going on there. I think a couple guys on here have done that now.

I hope never do core.

Read on old forum posts to only use motorcraft, but pic on rock auto shows its changed. Hose not swaged onto connector now, just a clamp, like others. Anyone know if others any good now or?????

Motorcraft kh733 looks right. But no dealer show in stock.
Only thing in town look like gates hose and clamps, which ok.

Guess this is supply. Theres restrictor in hose coming from manifold, but its plastic and broke easy. Hole looked 3/8" or so . I seen people say 1/4", looking in hose looked much bigger to me than that

I've been able to put cut the restrictor out, and put it in another hose before... not on an F150, but a Mustang. I lubed it up really well, and it was a PITA, but I got it in there.

Drove 100 miles round trip to get one
$125 later its good. Dealer ordered it for someone and they never picked it up

Nice to use right parts that fit and work
Wasnt going to take chance on repeating, etc to save $60 wirh crappy gates parts.

If didnt need to haul trailer this weekend would have ordered it for half that cost, but oh well.

Need to check other one good but im afraid to touch it now unless parts in hand. Shop might have manhandled this one a bit too much 3 yrs ago when new engine was installed, who knows.

It is usually the o-ring that fails, but maybe MBB's was the plastic that broke. Either way, it's a bonehead idea IMO.

Yup
Plastic push-on connector that completely broke off suddenly

Ive had little clip get brittle and break on gm, and oring leak , and pot metal gm fitting vorrode itself to water pump. But never all plastic just break off where ford crimped the hose on.

Could have been real bad, even ruin engine.
one end is 3/4, other is 5/8, was hoping aftermarket molded hose was long enough to use clamps, but its made same length for cheap push on fitting too.

The supply hose part number is F65Z18472BBC. The new hose has a corbin clamp holding the quick connect on the hose vs. the original quick connect which is crimped on like the return hose and probably like the original supply hose.
Ford probably did this for ease of replacement of just the quick connect since the the complete hose removal is harder because the corbin clamp is right up against the fire wall and hose pliers with a cable for hard
to reach places is needed to remove that clamp. Ford' price is $45.36 for supply hose vs RA which sells them for $26.99.
