Default 5.4 2V Rebuild and Timing Kit

Hey guys so I have a 2001 F150 4x4 with a 2V 5.4L Vin L. I snapped both timing chains so I'm doing a partial rebuild and refresh. I cannot afford the motorcraft kit at almost 900 bucks. Is there a good aftermarket kif out there that anyone has had good luck with. Any advice or tips about this rebuild would be appreciated. I wanna do this right as the truck belonged to my dad and he passed away.

if your going redo the timing on it, you might as well rebuild everything. motorcraft is the only way to go if you want it to last

I would be interested to know how both timing chains broke at the same time, and how many miles on the truck

Cloyes will work fine. They are an OEM supplier for Ford and other manufacturers.

Also, I would suggest you buy the timing tool (see link). I find that the cam positioning tools are not necessary as long as you have the crank position correct, and can read the marks on the chain and cam sprockets.

Amazon Amazon

EDIT: This video is for a 3V, but it is very, very similar. Same tool, same basic rules.

One more thing...... the parts labeled with an "L" (meaning left) go on the DRIVERS side. And the parts labeled with an "R" (meaning right) go on the PASSENGER side. If you mix them up, bad things will happen.
