Default Are 5.4 2 valves the same?

Does anyone know the difference in the 5.4 2V in a 2003 F150 vs a 2004 Expedition?
I have the F150 and bought the wife the Expy this summer. I change my own oil and maintenance and noticed differences in the 2.

The oil drain plugs are in different locations and the oil pans have a different shape.
The oil filters are in different locations on the block, and the Expy filter is angled slightly downward where the F150 is straight.
The intake covers are different.
The truck holds 6.5 quarts vs the Expy 6 quarts.

Love them both, just curious. Thought the engines would have been exactly the same, and can't find anything surfing the web.

Are you sure it's a 2v? 2003 was the last of the 2v's unless In some rare cases

Skintback....the 03 and 04 Expy are good engines to swap with the F150's. They are also 2v engines, with the figures and HP. I'm putting an 04 into a 98. It is ready for the transplant, just the weather isn't right to do it right now. The good thing about the 04 2v, they have the new 8 thread spark plugs, so NO blowing out plugs.

I did not know they kept using the 2v 5.4 in the Expedition till 2004. I guess the 3v 5.4 truck motor was not ready in '03 when it came out?

I know the 2v 5.4 is used in the E-series vans till this year.

Not sure on the oil pan difference (maybe clearance issues?), but both spec 6 qts of oil in the owners manual with an oil and filter change. Not sure where your getting the need for 6.5 qts on the '03.

Intakes will be different due to different tuning and design.

Blu.....100% correct. The E series 5.4 is also a 2v engine. Ford decided not to take a chance of problems, so they stayed tried and true to the 5.4 as a 2v in the van. They are too hard to work on to go to the 3v set up.

I show thru 2014, the long block, being the same. In another book, it shows using a E350 5.4 into a 99 F150 with only the intake and oil pan changes thru 2009. Like you said, the intake is different to fit the cowling and to have a different torque curve for the van.

On the note of the oil pan differences, you must change to the correct pan to clear underneath the truck and steering gear. Changing the oil filter mount is necessary if you have a remote style filter. If you want the exact set up you have, you have to move the filter mount to the new engine. These are very simple things that can make swaps very complicated, when they really aren't that bad.

I'm a bit confused on the valve covers, as they should be the same from 03 to 04. Maybe a design look change? I'll have to look at mine and see what you are describing on the covers. I'll get back to you on them.

Can you take pictures of the 2 difference covers? I just looked them up and they show the same covers with 2v from 03=04 at the very least. I know it goes back to 99, maybe 97, but I'm confused why your's are different?

Not the valve covers, the plastic cover on top of the throttle/intake where it's labeled '5.4 Ford' or whatever it says. The one on the Expy is bigger than the F150.

'03 was last year for 2v in the F150, but the '04 Heritage still had them I think.
Expedition last year was '04. That's why I bought it, absolutely did not want a 3v.

Yes, the owner's manual and every spec I've read states 6 quarts, but it takes 6.5 quarts exactly to reach the top mark on the dipstick of my truck. It's weird, I know.

I would consider this a blessing, lol.

2V > 3V
