What was the first year for FX4? I have a 99 4x4 "Off Road"....Am I correct in thinking that the "Off Road" edition is the same as far as skid plates but the FX4 has the suspension and wheels and color coded body molding? Am I correct here?

To answer your question and the right above. You don't have the the FX4 package because it didn't start until 2002. They pretty much lied to you right to your face, although it may have the same items as the fx4 (minus the rancho shocks).

Look under the truck and see if it has skid plates...that's the easiest one to see....then Rancho shocks.....

Biggest thing about having a FX4 is the 5.4 and the LS diff with the 3:73 gears. That's how mines equipped and it's a great combo.....

Only Screws come with 3.73's no matter what. Scabs have 3.55. Fx4s have limited slip differentials. fx4 does not come in only 5.4.

I have the straight 4X4 package with my 2001 Screw.... I do have the skid plates, and now have Rancho shocks since I put them on over the weekend, but have the 3:55 gears, which is a bummer since I have 35's on it.... seems to want to downshift too much...

Other than that, I thought the main difference was the skid plates and 3:73 gearing in the FX4

Other that... LOVE my truck.

Did you have to do any fabricating to fit the skid plates? Where did you get them?

Mine are factory skid plates, just like on the FX4. Were on there when I bought the truck.

f150 7700s Scab came with 3.73s (4x4 2002) or 4.10s( 2wd 2003).
