I have Manual Shift On the Fly for my current 2003 4 x4 problem I just posted. Carbon or anyone else, is there a diagram available for MSOF system?

check vacuum lines
When I had my 97, I drove around a long time with 4x4 not working. As I recall the light and sound it makes were not present. It ended up being the vacuum lines. Was a simple fix for the repair dude!

After checking everything I could at home and getting nowhere, I ended up taking it to the dealer. It ended up being that the shift fork for the transfer case was worn out, a fairly common issue around the 100k mark on these trucks, according to the mechanic. I thought about digging into it myself, but I didn't know if I would have the right tools, and seeing how it is my only mode of transportation, and the fact that the auto parts store is a 30 minute round trip walk from my house (yes, I've had to do it already), I just had them do it. $440 total, $211 for parts, and the rest was labor and sales tax.

OK everyone, I have been reading about the 4x4 problems and testing every last piece of mine, even getting some professional advise but could not locate the problem. Today I tried tapping the motor on the transfer case with a hammer since there was no more pieces to test and that brought the four wheel drive back to life. Thanks to all that posted info on this problem.

Updating an earlier post stating situation when the 2005 F-150 FX 4wd just stopped working. Fuses were all good and truck was factory stock - nothing ever changed except tires rotated and oil changed. Well, at around 100K the brakes needed replacing so I did it in the driveway. Two days later I needed some 4WD and it worked perfect. Must have been a connector at the hub area.
