4x4 not disengaging

4x4 not disengaging
I've searched for quite a while now and can't seem to get a definite answer.
i recently went to switch into 4wd high in my 97 4.6 and heard the clicks and 4x4 dash light come on, but no "clunk" of the hubs engaging. put in neutral, shifted into 4low and heard the clicks and clunk no problem. shifted out of 4low fine but not hearing the clunk when trying to go into 4H has me worried my axle might not be disengaging..
i have the in cab switch for choosing what gear i put the truck in, can anyone ease my mind?
