I agree, Ford has almost always been underpowered and the 4.6 should've never been put in a truck!!![/QUOTE]
I think we have a statement that NO ONE in their right mind could disagree with, which is almost unheard of on this board. LOL
I'm not buying a new F150 until Ford puts a diesel in it.
I want me diesel truck, mon.
But I love my F150, and it has been trouble free, so life ain't all that bad.
I know this F150 truck in the video is older, but it is the 4BT Cummins that people put in our years trucks.
Now tell me that isn't a sweet and simple thing of beauty and power.
What is Ford's problem? Ford could buy Cummins engines and put them in their F150's if building a great small diesel is beyond their ability.

So what are you gonna get a jetta? Because you aren't getting a 1500 dodge or chevy with a diesel either. And no, ford cannot buy cummins engines, cummins is under contract to dodge. Ford already has diesel engines, from international, and frankly they're trash. They need to drop powerjoke and hook up with caterpillar, then I will kill for a ford diesel, but for obvious reasons it would be a F250, 350, 450, 550 or 650 because nobody sells entry level pickups with diesels.

Can I make it more plain. They are already being made in Europe.
I don't know where you are getting your points.
Ford can buy Cummins engines and put them in the F150, any manufacturer can.
Ford did plan to put diesels in the F150 but is only going to do it in Europe for now. "Ford says it has put off (at least for a couple years) its previously announced plan to offer a diesel in the F-150 in the US " 2010
"While Dodge and GM are also progressing with plans for their light duty diesel trucks and Jeep is also planning to offer diesel engines" 2010.
No wonder Ford stock is only $11.00. Ford is about to blow it's biggest selling truck designation.

Let's see here, we have proof, that given the ability to do so, ford would, and already has used a cummins engine, the only way that it could. The F650 uses a cummins highway tractor engine, because those actually are available to absolutely any manufacturer. However for light duty diesel engines they turn to International because they cannot simply as you put it, buy cummins engines and put them in their trucks, because only dodge can do that. Contractual obligations and such.
This is why I say they should team with Caterpillar to create a new light duty diesel, and team with Eaton to make a bulletproof transmission to mate with it. Because any truck lover would kill to be able to say their truck has a cat and an eaton.

I'm telling you, FIAT Allis makes really fine Diesels, and now that FIAT owns Chrysler, Ford had better watch out! And the new 4.5 GM diesel is state of the art. Ford is asleep at the wheel.

Ford did drop international as there diesel provider! And they made there very own in house diesel for 2011...the 6.7 powerstroke. The reason it's called a powerstroke is ford owns the name and decided to keep it when dropping international. I have owned the 6.0 powerstroke and your right it is a piece of ****** ! That's y ford sued international! International didn't want to warranty there engines because of to many warranty claims and they were losing money!

Oh well. As for the 4.6 swap with 302 personally I have never seen or heard of it being done. Obviously space isnt an issue, but I do believe you would be shopping for a transmission from the 302- 351 era. But that shouldnt be hard, and should be cheap.
By chance did you check the camshaft position sensor, or the crankshaft position sensors on the 4.6L? Just curious, I dont know everything you have done to the truck, but they are part of the ignition system and really if anything shorts out with the ignition it is usually not pretty. I chased an ignition problem with my 302 for over a year and it turned out to be the ignition module. It fried something every other week it seemed. I replaced the brake light switch, ignition coil, numerous interior electrical components, and finally the pcm (some of these more than once + more stuff) before finding that it was the ignition switch. Would never have guessed it in a million years. I had to unbolt the ignition switch, and then cut the wires to the connector to the switch just to get it out. Never got the two apart.
But enough about me, I hope the best for you.

I have to admit that I have thought of doing the "swap" also. But I do know how huge of a job it would be. A crate motor, rebuilt C6 trans, and probably different transfer case too, then your talking driveshafts also. And then what to do about the wiring. Not a problem getting it to run, the problem would be with everything else that relies on the computer now. Everything is integrated . So ya, you could do it. Would it run? most likely. Would anything else work???? no,,, not without rewiring the whole truck.
I would fix what you have.
