Default 4.6 Triton needs to be replaced, need advice!!!!

I need to replace my 4.6 it has 190,000 and the rod bears are gone. I'm considering either a jasper reman, rebuilding it or used. Anyone got advice on all 3 options. I found a website with 5 year warranty/unlimited miles for used and jasper has 3 year/36000 miles. I'm super confused and don't know which way to go. Hell I would even take one someone pulled to upgrade to 5.4 or race engine.

Any advice would be awesome.

Thanks

The truck is flawless condition so it well worth replacing motor.

Look on ebay. Promar is there name if I remember correctly. Just do a search for your vehicle year, 4.6l and sixth letter or number of vin. The 4.6 for my truck cost 2299.00 free shipping and they give you 30 days to return core which is also prepaid free shipping back to them. 3 year unlimited mile warranty. Rockauto also sells one about the same price and warranty. I would not buy a used engine but that is me. Not going thur all the trouble to have the same issues in 3 years. Jasper usually does good work, some people do not like them but with the internet you can find alot of info. Do your homework and you make a decision you can afford and live with.

I just did this very thing on my99. Pulling and replacing that4.6 Is the biggest pita I have ever encountered. If you are going to do it, don't put a used motor in there. So yourself a favor and look up engine guy . Com they got mine to me in two days. Of course it shipped from the DFW area which is 2 hours away. Still great shipping and once I triple checked everything and made sure all was well,it fired up first try and I've had no issues since. It was 100% worth it.

What ever you do, DON'T put a used engine in the hole. You will be money ahead to go with a quality remanufactured engine if the truck is worth spending the money on. If it's rusty as sin, dented, smucked a good one before, etc, and you want to keep it, then maybe (if you have the abilities) do a home rebuild. Just my pennies worth. Good luck.

I had a used motor put in my truck. Has a 1 yr/12,000 mile warranty from my mechanic.
Yes you take a risk with a used motor, but was one I was willing to take. If your able to do the install yourself then a reman or crate is a great option. For me I could not afford that plus the instal price.

How hard is it to upgrade to 5.4? I was told 4.6 was better. Is 5.4 better?

5.4 and 4.6 is pretty much the same motor honestly, the 5.4 will give you more hp/torque. I believe the only thing you need is a different computer, and you might not even need that. The color on your truck is awesome, has potential for sure!
