looking to gain some horsepower! when the money situation is good. i just got the egine rebuilt at 200 000km all new gaskets. bolts, timing chain, plugs and put back together. new seals on rear axle. now looking to gain horsepower. i am thinking of a cold air intake and magnaflow dual cat back and eventual high flow cats. Any suggestions?

Why?

Why do you need more HP? What can't your truck do now that you want it to? In what circumstances is it lacking power?

You should find a goal to reach. Otherwise it seems pointless to throw money at it.

The mods you plan to do (CAI and exhaust) will give you next to nothing in terms of seat of your pants & actual numbers.

Honestly the only difference you will really see is if you install a set of EFans and a tuner or blower or nitrous. Everything else like intake, exhaust, headers, highflow cats, throttle body spacers, etc arent really worth the money spent on them to gain the tiny tiny bit of HP.

The tuner is the biggest gain you can get without going to biggg expense for things like a super charger.
I put an Edge Evo on my 4.6 and it made a nice difference.

I would just slap a Roushcharger or even a whipple. Or find a way to swap to a Cobra DOHC engine with the blower.

Slapping a supercharger on a n/a engine without beefing up the internals is not a good idea. If you could just slap em on most people would have em

I disagree! Many people bolt blowers on N/A, alot don't cause they can't afford them or just can't justify spending that much money. I have run 12# on a N/A 5.4L for many years with no issues, towing, drag racing, street use, all while turning 38" Toyos. It's all in the tuning!!!

Edit: While beefing up the internals is more insurance. It won't do you any good with with a bad tune. I have seen many built motors go. With low boost and good tuning you will be just fine.

This may be a stupid question but 12lbs of boost on a naturally aspirated engine?

I'm sure he means stock bottom end. A cheap way to set up a 4.6 for boost is to use the coyote 5.0 rods. They're very cheap and can handle a good amount of power. They're still powdered metal but build much better than our rods.

To make the truck get out of its own way better some people including myself wouldn't mind spending a few hundred to drop a few tenths off our 0-60
