4.6 ford block heater
2010 ford explorer sporttac 4.6 i now need to replace the block heater for the second time in less than a week, it just seems to get pushed out enough to cause a coolant leak, with engine running at idle there is no pressure pushing coolant into over flow. I removed cap and ran engine until up to temp and can using a flashlight looking into rad I can see coolant following but no bubbles etc. And as well when in the shop to install new block heater they did put a coolant pressure test just to check for leaks etc. They did not pressure test cap as they did not have the right adapter. i have read on on ther forms that this happens but no real fix that i can find? it is a messy job and would like to fix if for the last time this first block heater lasted 7 years?

I will say one thing, if you are using a block heater, use a Philips/Temro Zerostart as a replacement. This is a factory style replacement (this brand makes Fords heaters), and seals so they don't blow out if installed properly. The bar on the back makes it impossible to push out. KATs do not work well in these modular motors. The Philips/Temro number you should be using is 3100040. This is a direct cross to the Ford part number oem part.
Let me add a note: If this is the heater that is being installed, the mechanical shop you are using isn't installing them correctly. In 7 plus years in shop parts, I only had one come back for leaks. The mechanic got the seal tweaked and it leaked. Other than that, this brand doesn't leak very much, and stays where they are mounted, unless installed wrong.
