You may have a problem with the theft light if u take a PCM out a newer truck such as a 2001 it has the smart chip in the key you best net would be a PCM out of a 1997 are 98 without a chipped key. If u install a PCM from a truck with pats key the truck may not start more then likely won't and the key is not the only thing tied into that. Look for a older PCM with out a chipped key and save your self a headache

If he takes the PCM out an 01 with pats and puts it in his truck that also has oats the key code won't match what the PCM has stored and will go into theft mode. He prolly can do the swap and visit the dealer ship for a reflash but he will have to make sure the PCM he gets is compatible with his truck. This is all from my understanding when I had PCM problems with my 1999 f150

I bout a programer used it when I put it on my truck it wrote a 2001 f150 stock files to my 99 f150 it therefore changed my PCM completely and it went into thrift mode dealer ship saved my PCM luckily by doing a reflash but it wasn't cheap I spent close to 200 bucks not know for sure if it would fix but im happy it did

Correct about the pi engine but u could always get php to write u a better tune and php tuners may be able to disable pats for u on a newer PCM I'm not sure. But pats includes the gauge cluster the gem module the key and PCM from my understanding
