So I have a 4.6 with 3.55 i am gonna put on 35's and I need a new ring and pinion anyways so would 3.73 or 4.10's be better? I know I'm gonna loose fuel mileage but I'd like to keep it as good as I can, I do highway and city driving and light towing, any recommendations on which gears would be better, thanks

Go with 4.10s the jump from 3.55s to 3.73s wouldn't be a big enough difference to justify the cost. 3.73s with 35s is ok but not great 4.10s will be much better.

4.10s will also get you slightly closer to the overall stock ratio.

I'm working on a simple JavaScript page to answer this very question. It's just a quick and dirty thing I put together:

http://www.rcgearhead.com/gearing.html

Put in your existing tire size and gearing, hit calculate. The value highlighted in green represents the closest setting to stock, use the gear size in that row.

Ya, it looks like crap. I'll work on it to improve the UI. Like I said, it was just quick and dirty.

That is a pretty nifty setup. I like the highlighted idea for the stock set too.

Thanks. It looks much better on the Excel spreadsheet I used to figure it all out.

I'll work on it to get it looking a lot better.

Ok, I'm happy with this now.

If you want to know what gears you should use with your new tires, use this:

http://www.rcgearhead.com/gearing.html

Put in your current/stock tire size, then pick your new tire size. It will tell you what gears to use to get as close as possible stock.

This link should just be posted and if anyone has questions just send them here, it answers just about everything in this thread, and a lot of the million other threads that keep popping up over and over and over with the same questions

Default 35's

I hope to see more pictures, and from those with experiences the issues they've had doing this- both positive and negative.
