So in this case I hear alot of don't waste my time with the 5.0. I want alot of power from my build, and I prefer (get ready for this) to run it as a carburated motor. Now I know you can do that with the 4.6 but I would have to Frankenstein parts such as P.I heads from newer 4.6's

I seriously doubt you had a grand am with 350 ft lbs of torque...

Lol.
If you took the time and money you're wanting to waste with a 302, you could swap in a 400 hp 5.4.
Tell all the guys running 1100 hp lightnings or ibd running 1100+ in his 4x4 that they're pieces of ****

I'll tell you now you'll be time, money and headaches ahead of you go with a 5.4. Especially if you build a supercharged one with lightning takeoff parts. You will never have that kind of power and reliability out of a carbureted 302 without spending huge amounts of cash.

If you really want a pushrod engine, why not get a Chevy? Problem solved. I can't figure out where you are coming from on this, it's a truck.

looks like grand am was 180 hp max
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Grand_Am

even a 4.6 in 97 f150 was 220hp
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Modular_engine

so not HP wise and not TQ wise either

The only time I'd consider swapping an older motor is if its a mud truck that I don't really care about, where I didn't care if it had functional gauges, not worried if its out of commission for weeks tracing problems etc.

I wouldn't do all that for a 302 though, I had one in a single cab short bed and it was gutless, if we're talking a built 460 as a toy, I can get behind that.
