Engine Bay noise

Engine Bay noise
1999 Ford f150 xlt 5.4 v8 (4x4)
Weird noise coming from engine bay. Want to say lower but cant tell. It is like tapping, but only 3 or 4 times together then stops. And then again. Off and on. At idle, and driving. Good oil pressure, no codes. Fine idle speed. Any clues?

Could be the belt tensioner, I have heard them make a clicking noise when going bad. pop the belt off and start it up to see if the noise is gone.
if it is start spinning everything till you find the noise.

Also turn your hvac to off and see if it still makes the noise.

Ill have to check that. Im willing to check everything before going straight to Cam Bearings. Also changed oil in it, and didnt find anything wrong with it, other than it was a little dirty.

Ill have to check that. I just never use heat or air. First time the heat was on on in a year was because I was hearing this sound. So I turned heat and air on to see if the sound stopped (it didnt) Im willing to check everything before going straight to Cam Bearings. Also changed oil in it, and didnt find anything wrong with it, other than it was a little dirty.

Cam bearings? The modular engines in these trucks don't use cam bearings. Not stock anyway. They can be added for a built engine.

Oh really? The guy that looked at it, is a neighbor. He isnt a mehcanic really just a loud mouth know it all. He said he knows for a fact it is cam bearings then got offended when I had someone say it sounded like a ac pulley. He then said me taking off the cats and putting straight pipes is probably why the bearings went out and the whole engine will go out
