Default 2003 Overhead console Modification

I was wondering if anyone has every cut into the garage door opener lid on the overhead console. I'm wanting to add some extra switches for lights and figured that would be a great place. I just don't want to start cutting and the piece crack or become structurally weak so any experiences with cutting into it or tips on how to cut it w/o it cracking would be much appreciated.... or if anyone has a 2003 with multiple Daystar rocker switches wired up I'd love to see where you put them. Thanks in advance!2

It's been done. The garage door opener lid does nothing structually.

You can remove the door to work on it. Use a dremel or something else with a small high speed cutting blade so the plastic doesn't crack.

???? I think you missed the point of his question.

He wants to use the compartment for switches. Where did you get the idea that he wants a new visor so he can have a voice recorder?!?

Thansk guys, I went ahead and cut into the lid, main concern was cutting too much out so when I pushed on the switches it would crack the plastic that was left... So far I think it turned out pretty well!

That is clean. Good work! Those switches look much better than the standard cheapo toggle switches.

I'd love to do this with my switch. Looks very clean. Anybody know where I can get the door that's shown here? Mine has a broken latch. Went to junkyard but no joy. Ebay only has the entire console for more than a hundo. Just need the door.

Here's a link to buy them. You can buy either door, the console its self, or the whole package. They have grey, brown, and black. http://overhead-consoles.com/

Thanks man. Just ordered one.I quickly got to the point of diminishing return on my time. I've out twice to a junkyard looking for one.
