Greetings, I never owned a truck with the overdrive function. What does itdo? For best fuel economy should it be off or on? Are there any good links to help improve fuel economy? Do the hydrogen kits, making hydrogen from water, improve MPG or is it just a waste of time? Comments welcome. Enjoy the day.

OD is your fourth gear. dont touch it and play with it, just drive the truck, try not to overthink it.

I completely disagree. The Overdrive in these trucks is worthless. OD is fine to use in the city or on the highway, but it should NEVER be used when towing or climbing hills. The transmission just can't handle the stress, and eventually you will fry the OD bands.

Overdrive is a tall gear basically for cruising at highway speed. It will net you better mpg's. Now, if you're driving particularly hilly terrain or doing something like towing, then you want to turn it off. What happens is the transmission wants to shift to this gear, but the demands keep changing. This causes the trans to keep shifting in and out of o/d and builds a lot of heat. This will cook a transmission as heat is it's enemy. So, if you're driving some hilly back roads and you feel the trans shifting in and out of o/d, then you may want to turn it off. If you're towing on anything other than a level, flat, highway, then I'd turn it off. Hope this is informative.
