Suppose to swap it out every 3 years w/50/50 to be the safest and you should never see that problem. Also check your grounding/electrolysis. There's better explanations out there......here, -

Wow! Good info. Thanks! Had no idea coolant could do that. Yeah, I'll be keeping a closer eye on the coolant from now on.

Rust caused the coolant to leak from the cap?

Well, it went from bad, to much worse. I came home from work, put the new coil in, and started it up. It seemed to run good. I took it for a test drive on the expressway. Once I got off and came to a stop, the truck started running really rough again. Almost felt like it was going to die on me. Got it home and shut it off. After about 20 minutes I went out and started it again..... And this is what came out the tailpipes

Pretty sure the head gasket is blown!

I love this truck! I'm not ready to give up on it yet. I'm gonna fix it. I know it's gonna be a lot of work, but I gotta try.

So is that coolant, does it smell ? Mine use to smoked like that, when it loads up w/condensation..from high idle times, usually when it's colder out though.

Make sure it's coolant, could easily be since there's a lot of corrosion.

A bore scope down the cylinder to see if the piston is squeaky clean would be my next step. That will tell you for sure if coolants getting in to the cylinder

Yeah it smells like coolant. I checked the oil and it still looks good. I saw a little white smoke coming out and was praying it was condensation because it was hot today and then it rained real hard. But as soon as I gave it some gas, a huge plume of white smoke came out the pipes. LoL. I had to laugh. It was comical. Then I shut it off and had a beer! Now here is a question... Since I kept getting indication of #4 cylinder, is it safe to assume that I may only need to replace passenger side head gasket? The reason I ask, is because I just replaced the passenger side exhaust manifold like a week ago. So if that's the case, I would at least be able to take that off relatively easy now. I'm trying to stay positive.

And yes, this truck has been great! I've had it over 10 years and this is the first real issue I've had. Other than replacing the U-joints and exhaust manifold. But this truck has been good to me. I've had nothing but ford trucks. A ranger and two F150's. I have no plans on getting rid of this truck!!
