Default Newb transmission questions

Hey all, I'm new to the gasser/F150 world, so expect some dumb questions.

Anyways I'm looking at buying a 97-02 F150 with a 4.6 for a DD.

I would like an Auto trans cause shifting is traffic gets old, but I like manuals because I know they are though and will last longer.

So my question is, how tough are the automatic transmissions in these trucks? And about how many miles do they start giving problems?

And is there anything else on these trucks that like to give problems?

I already know about the spark plugs.

Mine has 168000 and its still running strong with no slippage or grinding. And its taken a decent amount of abuse from me and my brother. I wouldnt hesatate on buying another auto f150.

I just had to rebuild my 4r70w in my 98 4.6 at 175k. But to be fair, the first time the tranny fluid was ever change was right after I bought it with 155k and I have a pretty heavy foot.
